During the ancient times, Barangay Budla-an was already in existence in which the early generations where living in a community with the practice of Filipino culture and traditions. The name Budla-an was not the original name of the place and no available document that could tell its origin. However, in a story related by one of the old persons in the Barangay, it tells about the origin in deriving the name of the barangay. The story says that there was a lake in which a big octopus is dwelling. During full moon, the octopus will come out from the lake and it displayed itself under the shine of the moon along that area adjacent to the lake, in Cebuano dialect it’ called “Bularan”, as the years passed, the community leaders during those time decided to change the name into “BUDLA-AN” in which until the present. It becomes the official name of the place.
On the other hand, the people in the barangay lived in a very simple way living. Majority of the constituents rely primarily on agriculture as the source of the livelihood. The barangay has a land area of 1,537 hectares. It has a great potential to adopt for development due to its agricultural sources. It’s only a matter of acquiring and adopting some technical knowhow in discovering the potential and resources of the barangay.
