The Bukig National Agricultural and Technical School (BNATS) begun as the Bukig National Rural High School at the instance of community elders and leaders who felt the dire need for secondary education for their children. It was created by the virtue of RA 2395 authored by the late Cong. Felipe Garduque of the 1st District of Cagayan and passed by the Philippine Congress in 1959. Formal operation begun on July 1, 1960 offering the Secondary Agriculture and Agricultural Homemaking Curricula.
In 1974 the school began offering the 2 Year Agricultural Technician Course. This was necessitated renaning the school after nearly fifteen years in operation through a PD in 1975, the school was renamed Bukig National Agricultural and Technical School. In 1977 it started offering the 4 Year Bachelor of Science in Agriculture major in Agronomy and Animal Husbandry but was turned over by virtue of PD 1436 to the Cagayan State University. In 1989, by virtue of DECS RO#01, the school started to offer 2 Year Food Beverage Preparation and Services and one (1) year Institutional Housekeeping. However, RA 7078 provided for the reclassification of BNATS as a higher technical education institution with a mandate for it to offer, over and above its secondary education program, non-degree and degree course. In June 1998, on the strength of a go-signal from the Commission on Higher Education, it formally begun offering the 4-year Teacher Education course, decided to fill the vacuum created by Cagayan State University withdrawing its unit from Bukig. In 2002, the Commission on Higher Education enforced the integration of all public higher education institutions into the university system in consultation with DECS and TESDA. As a result, BNATS was retuned to the Dep Ed. The return of BNATS to the Dep Ed was timely with the pilot implementation of the Revised Basic Education Curriculum (RBEC) in all public schools. Although the school was newly transferred to the Dep Ed, the management did not encounter so much problem in the implementation of the RBEC. The implementation of RBEC opened wider and better avenues in the teaching-learning process towards the attainment of quality education. However, effective SY 2005-2006, Dep Ed Order #37 s2005 mandated all public technical vocational high school in the country to implement the redesigned technical vocational high school program to all 1st year students. Thus, increasing the number of contact time in technical vocational education to 2 hours with 3 equivalent units. The increased in time provided more opportunities for shop work and hands-on activities for mastery of specific skills in vocational and technical skills. However, with the issuance of Dep Ed Order # 37 s2005, all 282 tech voc schools in the country were mandated to implement a more meaningful and functional curriculum called the Strengthened Technical Vocational Education Program (STVEP) offering various areas of specialization staring on the second year. The school had piloted Senior High School Modelling last S.Y. 2012-2013 and it was a success until the full implementation of the K to 12 program last S.Y. 2016-2017. Senior High School is added in the curriculum.
The commitment of the teachers and employees, parents and the community to support the implementation of the Strengthened Technical Vocational Education Program (STVEP) and K to 12 program (Junior and Senior High School) and their related activities gained more support and inspired the school management to hold on to the vision, mission and goals of basic education.
