Modular Distance Learning

The annual arrival of the southwest monsoon (Habagat) brings heavy, prolonged rainfall, flooding, and landslides that frequently disrupt daily life and threaten student and teacher safety. To protect educational continuity during severe weather conditions, the Department of Education (DepEd) relies on Modular Distance Learning (MDL).

When Habagat conditions trigger heavy rainfall warnings or widespread flooding, local government units and DepEd field offices suspend in-person (face-to-face) classes. Rather than stopping the learning process completely, schools transition to MDL—an alternative delivery mode where students utilize Self-Learning Modules (SLMs), printed learning packs, or digital offline files to complete their lessons independently from home.

This shift ensures that students do not fall behind academically while addressing the immediate safety hazards, transportation disruptions, and infrastructure damage caused by monsoon rains and flooding.
