HISTORY

Barrio Luz Elementary School is located along Archbishop Reyes Avenue, Barangay Luz, Cebu City. It is located beside the Bureau of Internal Revenue near Luz Barangay Hall and a few blocks away from Cebu Business Park.


Barrio Luz is a complete elementary school and is also offering Kindergarten, SPED class and ALS. Due to its accessibility, the pupils are mostly coming from the 16 sitios of the barangay.


The school was built on a meager budget of PhP20,000.00 which was built on May 15, 1956. It has a land area of 7,500 sq. meters. It stands as a singular achievement of so many minds whose only mission was to put up an institution of learning that can cater to the needs of so many school children residing in the vicinity.


In terms of physical facilities, it has a one four - storey building with twenty - eight classrooms, one three - storey building with nine classrooms and one two - storey building with six classrooms.


Barrio Luz Elementary School has stood for fifty - seven strong and fruitful years. It has generously produced a lot of professionals who excel in their field of endeavor and become role models of the community. One of its most significant achievements is having produced teachers who are currently serving their Alma Mater. The then Barangay Captain, Honorable Rian C. Tante, is a proud alumnus of the school.


Proudly, Barrio Luz Elementary School is both an academic and non - academic achiever. It had won several awards in academic contests, sports, arts and cultural competitions, thus, it became the headquarter school of North District 7.


It has a SPED Class to cater children with special needs and for the out-of-school youths in the Alternative Learning System (ALS) Program.


The school is a child-friendly school which offers activities towards the total development of the child. The pupils are active in joining different Scouting activities bringing home several awards during Kab Olympics, Area I and adventure encampments.


Aside from the remedial instruction, the school sustained its feeding program to minimize drop-outs and improve the nutritional status and academic performance of the pupils. Feeding is done in the morning to all severely wasted and waster beneficiaries sponsored by Lexmark and Ateneo Businees School. Moreover, there is a regular feeding in the afternoon to all pupils by grade level in every week. Nutripan sa Eskwelahan is a project implemented in school to be able to provide bread with nutritional value to all its clientele.


The school, with the joint effort of both the internal and external stakeholders, has sustained its Clean and Green Project implementation.
