History of the School
Unfolding the pages of the history, from the memorable past and from the stories told by the teachers and the living witness, Balagtas Elementary School (BES) has a very humble beginning which started 1970.
The first school was a two-room building owned by Mrs. Juanita Guinhawa. Mrs. Loreta Mendez was then the first teacher and it was named Balagtas Primary School. Enrolment increased every year until classes were organized from grades one to six. It became a full-pledged elementary and was then called Balagtas Elementary School.
The school has then produced line of graduates whose outstanding accomplishements have brought fames and honors to their mentor and parents in particular and to Balagtas Elementary School in general.
The school stood on its original site which was located along the highway and at the heart of the barangay until the year 2006, BES still stood. Its old weary dilapidated buildings through not that conducive to learning still accommodated inspiring, courteous, disciplined and intelligent pupils who competed well enough in the district, division and regional competitions. The humble facilities responded well to the basic needs of its clientele.
It was in April 2007 when all the buildings were demolished. Pain struck the hearts of the teachers, parents and pupils seeing the falls and debris of their former dwelling. They were worried of the future of their school children. Rallies and demonstration headed by PTA officers.
Parents and barangay officials were done to display their protest, but it was to no avail. They had to give up for the benefit of the majority.
The site was utilized by the Southern Tagalog Arterial Road (STAR) Toll Way construction. Wide roads were built to be used by huge delivery trucks and buses that come and go from Batangas Province to other places in the country.
Classes were then held temporarily at Alangilan Central Elementary School, a school which is 800 meters away from the barangay during the school year 2007-2008. Simultaneously, the phase I construction of the new school building located at Kalye B was resumed in September 2007. It took almost nine months for the building to be constructed.
It was June 30, 2008, when the new building was occupied and was inaugurated in July 18. The two-storey building with fourteen classrooms now stands tall on its new site bearing its clientele’s vision which is to become productive citizens of the country.
