Alcala West Central School, The Light Bringer
With Mr. Felimon Quinto as the organizer and served as the first teacher, Afusing Primary School started its operation in 1903 and utilized residential houses as the learning centers. With him alone as the first teacher, he handled learners of different ages but of the same grade level. After a year of operation, another teacher came in the person of Mr. Praxedes Sorita who handled Grade 2, then after a year Mr. Juan Berbano entered as volunteer teacher who handled Grade 3. Four years after, Mr. Praxedes Sorita was again accommodated and taught Grade 4. All of them finished Elementary Normal Course.
From the resindential houses, learners transferred to a make shift learning center made of bamboo, cogons and sawali erected at the central part of Afusing Daga.
In 1907, Afusing Elementary School was officially established.
The school has an area of 10,652 sqm. acquired through donation of the local government unit of Alcala and acquired its lot title in the year 2016. Said lot title was awarded personally to the school heads by the Municipal Mayor in August 2017.
Meanwhile to solve the problem in teacher shortage graduated in Elemetary Teachers course, entered as volunteer teacher the person of Selina C. Tejano and Filomena Aluan Marinas. Mr. Raul Santiago was then the first Teacher in Charge of the school.
In 1910, the cornerstone of a Gabaldon Building was laid completed and inaugurated after a year. This was built in Afusing as the center of the western part of Alcala so that people from the nearby barangay could use it as learning centers.
Due to the outbreak of World War II in 1942, the school was forced to stop its operation for a couple of years. In 1945, just after the World War II finished, operation of the school went back to normal and hold classes in the newly erected makeshift buildings and in the bomb shuttered Gabaldon building which was later on replaced by a 1 3-room semi concrete building then another 2 room semi-concrete was added.
In 1972, Marcos type buildings were constructed to house the increasing number of learners that includes learners from feeder barangay of Afusing batu, Abbeg and Cabuluan.
In 2013, a resolution was made and submitted for the renaming of the school from Afusing Elementary School to Alcala West Central School. Due to the Creation of Educational Zones in the Division of Cagayan. Alcala West District was divided in 2 and that Alcala West Central School was chosen as the seat of Alcala West District, the reason why it was officially renamed Alcala West Central School in the year 2015. The renaming of the school is through the initiative of Dr. Romeo Ramirez, a retired District Supervisor.
To this day, AWCS is trying its best to glow with remarkable records in competitions with the aid of the dedicated, hardworking and efficient teachers.
