HISTORY OF THE

SCHOOL

Bangag Elementary School is situated in the central part of Barangay Bangag, Solana, Cagayan specifically in Purok 4. It is bounded with two schools namely Lanna Elementary School in the east and Bauan Elementary School in the west. The school has a total land area of 15,997 sq.m.. According to history, it was in 1941 when the school was first opened. It was a one classroom building which walls were made of bamboo and boho and the roof covered with cogon. The school started catering Grade I with 14 pupils handled by a male teacher in the person of Mr. Antonio Ubiña of Andarayan, Solana, Cagayan. Three years after its birth as an institution, the school enrolled pupils up to Grade IV, one (1) teacher per grade level. Thereafter, the pupils transfer to Centro to continue their higher education.

The school premise was rugged and thickly forested during those years. The trees according to legend was very big and sturdy which the name of the barangay got its name specifically “Bangar tree”. A tree with very odorous flowers when they bloom. It is then under the trees were some classes are held due to lack of classroom. When it rains, some hold classes in the house of Pedro Bangayan whose house is a stone throw to the school.

Five years later, the school was completed as an elementary school. It catered Grades I to 6. Mr. Jose De Polonia was deployed as Teacher-In-Charge and at the same time handling Grade I pupils. Years later, Mr. Pedro Balisi of Andarayan, Solana, Cagayan was appointed as the Head Teacher and at the same time the Industrial Arts teacher with six teachers, one (1) teacher per grade level. The first graduate Bangag E/S was only 18 pupils. During his administration, classroom made of bamboo walls and cogon roofs were converted into wooden walls and galvanized iron roofs. It is during his time where educational assistance were provided like desks and blackboards. Teachers at that time didn’t finish a degree to qualify then to teach as long as they can read and write and know how to speak in English and have the right attitude in teaching the 3R’s (reading, writing, arithmetic).

During the ancestral time, you need a lot of convincing power to be able to let the people realized the value of sending their children to school or the value of education. People have the belief that educated and uneducated person are the same and parents had the notion that their children won’t finished their schooling because they will immediately get married that’s why very few come and enroll.

People come and go and everyone left a mark to the school for a reason and that is to make the school a perfect abode for learning and be able to deliver the most efficient and effective services to cater the needs of the learners.
