READINESS OF DACAL-PUKEL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN IMPLEMENTING MODULAR LEARNING DELIVERY
MODE UNDER NEW NORMAL
Education is always believed as the venue in the cultivation of the mind and in the development of the divine gift through delicate processes of thought and mental development. According to the Secretary of Education, Hon. Leonor M. Briones; “Education must continue. We should strive harder despite challenges.” With that, President Rodrigo Duterte congratulated Dep-Ed for its school opening. According to him, the school opening of this year is a momentous occasion because it is pushing through despite the global health crisis due to COVID-19.
To ensure that all learners have access to quality education, the internal stakeholders of Dacal-Pukel Elementary School, Sanchez Mira District prefers Modular Learning based on the LESF (Learners Evaluation Survey Form) which is 68% as an alternative way of teaching Though there are many approaches that are to be undertaken, just that there should be no academic freeze to happen in the country. This approach has been concluded that it is the most appropriate in the school because of many reasons. First, they cannot cope up with online class because of poor internet connectivity, no available gadgets to be used and lack of knowledge on how to be in an online class. Second, online class seems so expensive considering the fact that most of them belong to low-income families. Although some households have the devices such as smart phones and computers, they are hampered by slow internet connections and signals as well as daily costs of prepaid loads.
Today’s educational system in the country, modular-based learning has been used by teachers to deliver their lessons. The integration of self-learning materials with the other learning delivery modalities like radio-based instruction, blended and online will help the Department of Education ensure that all learners have access to quality education for this school year as a substitute of face to face teaching-learning approach. The modules were distributed by teachers wherein the parents will get and they will also be the one to return their modules at certain pick-up points for checking. These are accomplished by the pupils at home with the supervision of their parents and guardians. Task outputs were then checked and recorded by the teachers. There is also monitoring of the accomplishment of modules done by the teachers or monitoring teams of institutions. Home visitations by teachers were done for monitoring.
Accordingly, the modular learning is newly introduce as of this year focusing on the competencies that the learners need to attain integrating knowledge, skills and abilities to effectively prepare them on the field of education.
The Dacal-Pukel Elementary School satisfies the battle cry of the department on the continuous delivery of quality education, hence this applied research.
