I. ABSTRACT
This action research was conducted to determine the effectiveness of Letter Substitution Games to Differentiate Words with Different Medial Vowels among Grade 2 Pupils of Sta. Barbara- Maguilling Elementary School, Piat District for this School Year 2020-2021. The participants of this study were the 25 grade 2 pupils, wherein 10 were males and 15 were females. One-Group Pretest- Posttest Quasi-Experimental Research Design was used in utilizing the pretest and posttest scores as main source of data. A teacher-made pretest and posttest questionnaires which was quality assured by the Master Teacher and School Head and validated in other school of the same grade level to get the percentage tracking progress chart was used to gather data from the participants. The results showed that there was an increase in the posttest as compared with the pretest scores. This implies that the intervention used had caused significant difference in the mean scores. The eta squared value revealed that the intervention has caused medium effect in improving the reading skills of Grade 2 pupils. This shows that the intervention is effective in improving the performance of pupils as reflected by the significant difference in the mean posttest compared to the mean pretest. It is therefore recommended that Grade 2 teachers should consider the implementation of the Letter Substitution Games in their respective classes to improve their pupils’ performance along the differentiated words with different medial vowels. School Heads should also consider the findings of this study in crafting programs and projects in their respective schools.
