Apayao Elementary School is situated in the northern part of the municipality of Piat – Apayao gots its name from the famous Papaya which are dominant in every household in the area and the people used to say when asked about the plant is that,they would answer in the Itawes vernacular “ Apaya yao” which means “ This is Papaya”
In 1975, Barangay Apayao has been divided into two political subdivisions, half of it became Villa Reyno. The newly created barangay was named after the name of one of the most powerful assembly man of Cagayan during the Marcos regime, Atty. Boy Reyno.
Apayao and Villa Reyno have a total land area of approximately 12 000 hectares more or less. Topography is wide plain in the west suited for rice, corn, tobacco and vegetables and rolling hills in the east suited for sugar cane, cassava and some portion as pasture land.
