Barangay Dodan is one of the 24 barangays of the mountainous town of Peñablanca. According to history, the place was once upon a time a wilderness. It was covered with forest and along the banks of the river that flows through it were thick cogon grows. When settlers in the Poblacion increased in numbers, some of them moved in this place. They were attracted by the typography of the place. Being a valley crossed by a winding river, they knew it would provide them first class agricultural lands when cleared.
The first batch of settlers that reached the place was led by a man named, Domingo Dodan. As soon as they arrived in the place, they started to make some clearing in the wilderness. They cut down trees and between the stumps of these trees they planted corn, rice and tobacco. This is the so-called “kaingin method’’ of farming.
The settlers built temporary huts for their shelter. They were contented and happy. Wild animals such as deer, hogs, and birds were found all around them. Fish of different kinds were plentiful all along the river. More and more people became interested in coming to the place.
After a lapse of time, Domingo Dodan got sick and died. The settlers agreed that the place would be named “Dodan” in honor of Domingo Dodan for his adventurous spirit. Since then, the place had been called DODAN.
At present, Barangay Dodan is classified as an urban area by the Municipal Planning Development Council (MPDC) of the municipality of Peñablanca. This progressive barangay is situated 3.5 kilometers on the eastern part of the town proper or Poblacion. It has a total land area of 274,000 sq.km. Since it has a vast farmland,, the common source of income of people is farming. However, there are also professionals, skilled carpenters, workers and tricycle drivers.
