Sta. Maria Primary School was established in 1963. The school lot was donated by Apolonio Siggaoat Sr. with an area of 5,211 sq. meters. It is located at the center of the barangay Sta. Maria, Gonzaga, Cagayan. It is 1.780 km away from the Provincial road.

The first school building was built with wood, bamboo, and cogon. Since there were only few children, the first combination class was held with Mrs. Leonora Tamayo as the very first teacher. The erection of a Primary School was possible because of the initiative of the barangay folks with the help of Mr. Bienvenido Rasos, the barangay Lieutenant.

When settlers from Ilocos Region came, the population of the barangay became bigger, and the enrollment increased. Makeshift school buildings were changed into concrete. It was July 23, 2007 when the school became a complete elementary school offering Kindergarten to Grade Six.
