Piña Weste Elementary School was opened in 1958 by the late Mr. Ruperto Abad. It was located at Sitio Anungo, Piña Weste, Gattaran, Cagayan. it started with grade 1 with thirteen (13) pupils. The pupils and the teacher were housed in a temporary school building made out of cogon and bamboo, constructed by the PTCA members. As years passed, it became a multi-grade school with a lone teacher holding the multi-grade classes. It maintained its status as a multi-grade school until it was transferred to another site (where it is located now) at the heart of barangay in 1976. it became a complete elementary school with three (3) teachers namely: Mrs. Aurora Agcaoili, Miss Martina Aglugob and Mrs. Orpilla. It had its first Closing Program in the year 1982 with eight (8) graduates.
In 2013, the school was manned by a Head Teacher III in the person of Mr. Reynaldo C. Alejo, supported by the teaching staff, to mention: Mrs. Ardiolyn C. Vicente, Mrs. Melvie V. Sulquiano, Mrs. Maryann B. Vicente, Mrs. Reylyn J. Robino, Mrs. Adelaida S. Purificasion, Mrs. Edna V. Dian, Mrs. Marigrace M. Vicente and Ms. Margelyn C. Valdez.
It had nine (9) instructional rooms and a School Office in a 10,000sq.meter lot on top of a hill, of five (5) were constructed with funds came from the National Government, two (2) classrooms were constructed by the PTCA and Barangay Officials Headed by Mr. Mario M. Balino, the PTCA President and Mr. Benjamin P. Vicente, the Barangay Captain, respectively, through the initiative of the School Head, Mr. Reynaldo C. Alejo. The most recent constructed building was the RCN Type School Building which has three (3) classrooms funded by the LGU Gattaran, through the leadership of the Municipal Mayor, Hon. Atty. Ramon C. Nolasco. These complete the classroom requirements of the school.
At present, the school is being handled by a dedicated and hardworking School Principal II, Mrs. Lemarie I. Bumanglag, assisted by her equally committed teaching staff: Mrs. Margelyn V. Dela Cruz, Kindergarten Adviser; Mrs. Ardiolyn C. Vicente, the Master Teacher of the school and a Grade 1 Adviser; Mrs. Maryann B. Vicente, Grade 2 Adviser; Mrs. Mylene C. Laddaran, Grade 3 Adviser; Mrs. Edna V. Dian, Grade 4 Adviser; Mrs. Melvie V. Sulquiano, Grade 5 Adviser; Ms. Chriselyn B. Quimuyog, Grade 6 Adviser and Mrs. Donalyn D. Asuncion, the Relieving Teacher.
