Greetings of Peace, Love and Joy!
According to Vince Lombardi, the difference between a successful person and others is not lack of strength, not lack of knowledge, but rather it is lack in will, and with this I concur and can proudly say, that the success of Team WEBS of Pata Elementary School is a manifestation that their will power to come up with this website is coupled with their love and dedication to their calling though it may be beyond their official duties and responsibilities as classroom teachers. Congratulations to the team!
In this era of advancing technologies, school website is seen as a tool in reaching out to our students- past, present, and future- as well as to the global community, benefactors and stakeholders. The role, purpose and importance of the school website is changing is very important especially so that we have moved to a digital operational base in this time of pandemic. Therefore, to keep ourselves on track to the new normal, the use of the digital media should also be integrated in the digital ecosystem of the academe.
I would like to execute a snappy salute to the brainchild of the Project WEBS in the Division of Cagayan for their continued dedication in finding ways and means on how we can improve the delivery of services to our learners and in the community. The same goes to the ever-diligent, highly proficient and dedicated teachers comprising our PATA ES WEBS Team for your insurmountable sacrifices in coming up with our school website. I know that you have traveled extra miles and you have put your head and heart into this venture making it a success. As always, you have once again proven that you really are “maasahan sa maraming bagay”. I can’t imagine how you worked hard through it without me by your side but believe me, my thoughts are always with you even in times that I was in quarantine. Nevertheless, I never doubted your abilities and capabilities and indeed, you have once again surpassed my expectation.
The purpose of having school website is for us to be able to reach out to every learners we have wherever they are in the whole world. Through this website, we will be posting the different activities going on in our school. Directives, orders, announcements, learning materials, and other resources shall also be published here making it accessible to anyone who needs it. The school website will also serve as an avenue for every alumni to get in touch with their school as a sign of their loyalty and will show case the victories and achievements the school is reaping.
Moreover, I urge everyone of us to keep our commitment to our calling on fire. Commitment isn’t easy, but when we stay committed will have the ability to achieve the goals we have only dreamed of. Nothing can be accomplished without commitment. It’s going to be difficult most days, but at the end of every endeavor done with commitment, the feeling of satisfaction and fulfillment is rewarding.
Lastly, I want to inspire everyone of us with the line of Collin Collidge saying, Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan, ‘press on’ has solved, and always will solve the problems of the human race.”
Let us then continue to work together to face the challenges pressed against us in this time of pandemic. With faith in God and strength in our hearts, we will be victorious over whatever turmoil we are battling at the moment. Press on, move on, we can do it as one.

HOME-BASED LEARNING IN SUPPORT
OF MODULAR APPROACH IN THE NEW NORMAL
By: BERNALDO R. MACUGAY JR.
Truly, this new normal stage of education can be attributed not only by the educational crisis and challenges it brought to the learners but also with the nobility of the learning practices, modalities and systems that are employed by schools and DepEd just to ensure sustainability of instruction for the learners. The sudden shift in the method of instructional delivery into the use of learning delivery modalities has made the new normal education positive and promising despite of the critical situations. Moreover, the temporary shift in the learning setting from school setting into home-based distance learning environment has made this period of education driven with ties of connection and support from the basic family units to the much broader community-based support services.
Opportunities for home-based learning make this unique stage of education more special. This is because home is where the students derive the strongest and most important social support system to continue and pursue their new normal learning engagement. Parents and family members provide the most significant sources of inspirations and reasons to uphold sustainable learning endeavor for the students amidst the growing challenges of distance learning in this new normal. It is therefore worthy to assert and consider that home-based learning makes it possible and attainable to help students continuously attain their learning objectives despite of the ongoing crisis.
These are also the salient and profound reasons which make home as the ideal setting to draw inspiration for the design and development of distance learning materials and tools. Some of these materials are termed and regarded as home-based learning modules. These are special kinds of modular learning tools that are designed to guide and direct the new normal learning engagement of the learners. Home-based learning modules are still curriculum-based and competency-based learning modules designed for more special learning purposes. These are especially termed this way as it implies the need for independent learning skills and learning responsibilities of students but still with the sufficient support and guidance from parents and family members towards more meaningful new normal learning.
FOSTERING SUSTAINABLE PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN TEACHERS AND PARENTS EVEN AMIDST THE EDUCATIONAL CRISIS
By: BERNALDO R. MACUGAY JR.
In this new normal education, it is not only the learners who need support systems from different sectors but also their parents. Parents also need sufficient support that could foster their empowerment as home-based mentors of their children subjected to the use of learning delivery modalities. To attain this goal, parents need to establish partnership with the teachers particularly in asking for advice or guidance in the management of the modular learning engagement of the young learners in this new normal. On the other hand, teachers also need to be genuinely ready and willing to support to the parents by way of responding positively to the inquiries and concerns of parents regarding the management and monitoring of modular learning endeavor of the children.
Teachers exert efforts in mentoring the parents in applying best practices in supporting the children’s modular learning engagement. This is attainable through teachers’ provision of pieces of advice, counselling and mentoring to the parents in serving as home-based learning mentors of the youth subjected to modular modality. Through this, knowledge and useful ideas in stimulating children’s motivation and focus towards modular learning could be sufficiently offered for the parents.
Teachers may also offer the parents with instructional guide for the parents in line with the management of modular learning activities and performance of learners. There are different types of instructional guide that can be offered for parents. One is instructional guide on the appropriate and relevant execution of lessons and activities in the learning modules, so as to assist the parents well on proper management of children’s modular learning. Teachers also design another type of guide that features best practices in guiding, supporting and monitoring children’s modular learning engagement in this crucial period of learning.#
