UAES, Provides Quality Education and Developing Learners to be Innovators of Tomorrow.
Education plays a very important role in the growth and development of an individual. For without education, the young will grow and live a life full of questions without corresponding answers. Another, education is the key to the improvement and development of life. Hence, the need for the school-education.
According to the old folks, school in Unag was opened sometimes in the year 1925. They opened Grade one then Grade two up to Grade six until it became a complete Elementary School. No data available as to who the teachers and where they came from. It is a fast growing school interms of population. This is because the pupils came from different barangays like Barangay Tana, Palayag, Abolo, Nanggattaban, Annafatan and Annabuculan. Even children in barangay Masical came to study in Unag Accordingly, Annabuculan is a sitio of barangay Unag. As years goes by, the school population became bigger and bigger.
The building used as their classroom is called “Gabaldon Building of which the entire wall is made of wood. The partition inside that devides the room is also made of wood. This is the mostly used type of classroom during the time. Some minor repairs were made particularly in the replacement of the wall into concrete hollow blocks ,replacement of roofing and others. Said building is located between the boundary of Unag and Annabuculan. Classes still going even during the Japanese occupation. Operation of the school did not stop. Unag is one of the evacuation place during the Japanese occupation. Other barangay opened their school after liberation, others opened in the mid 50’s and 60’s,they study in their own barangay.
Barangay Abolo, a neighboring barangay opened their Primary School sometimes in the year1968 but Grade one only. When they promoted to Grade Two they transferred to Unag Elementary School up to Grade six. Because of the distance of Abolo to Unag and the difficulty of road and the children going to the place and in 1972 they opened Grade Two, Three and Four but still transferred their pupils to Unag Elementary Schoo when they promoted to Grade five. This perhaps Abolo is lack of school building. Since theres an increase in population, three classroom building was constructed in other lot. The teachers called it “new site” while the old building , called it old site. Grade 1, II, and III transferred to the new building while Grade IV,V,and VI occupied the old building. Since the distance between the two school building is very far ,the school head is very difficult to supervise the classes and to conduct instructional supervision to teachers. In order to merge the school children and six classes/grades into one place. Grade I, II and Grade III transferred to the old site and occupied the newly constructed school building. Reason for staying in one place is for the school head to easily monitor and supervise the classes, the children and the conduct of instructional supervision to teachers.
Most of the teachers that taught in Unag are non-resident. They came from other municipality or district. Other are resident teachers. This is when the municipality of Amulung is one district only. In the year 1953, there was a particular pond found and located in between of the four barangays namely: TANA-northwest, ABOLO-northeast, NANGATTABAN-southwest and UNAG-southeast.
The pond was full of big fishes particularly butting tilapia, and many kinds. This indeed, widely known in the four barangays. People usually had fish catching as their livelihood through their fishnets. With their joy, happiness and excitement in doing their daily activity in catching many big and different kinds of fishes, this greatly motivated and pushed them not to stop having and doing such livelihood for their families.
In the year 1956, the particular pond located in between of the four barangays where the people usually had their fish catching is called “Pagtabukulan” in Ilokano as their dialect. From then on, they named the place and made it so nicely to pronounce as “Annabuculan”.
Once upon a time, there lived a rich man in an isolated place. He had a vast of land and a cattle rancher. Of course, he had with him some pasturers. They were fed by the rich man and every time they had their meals, the kind of food served for them were not the same as for the rich man.
One day, one of the pasturer thought of a plan to butch one cattle In order for them to eat somewhat a delicious viand. At first, majority of them didn’t really want to push through with the said plan for it would give them dangerous steps in their lives when after the rich man would come to know about it. However, because of the words of encouragement 0f the one who initiated the plan, they were able to convince themselves and agreed to do the plan.
One morning, when the cattle owner had the time to visit the place and counted the cattle, one cattle had lost and they fearly answered,” It fell down to the balon a well,” They tried to look into what happened and pulled it up, the found out that it was only the cattle’s tail that they can pull it out from the balon. The pasturers said to the cattle owner, its body was deep. Deep from the well which means “Un-Unag” in Ilocano as their dialect. From that time the isolated place was called “Unag”. It was named after the incident happened with the cattle’s body.
