BRIEF HISTORY OF THE EXISTENCE

OF KAPANICKIAN SUR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

The KAPANICKIAN SUR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL started to be Kapanickian Primary School which was formerly located at Kapanickian Norte, Allacapan, Cagayan. Due to growing population, the school could not cater the needs of the learners so the Teniente del barrio in the person of Teagano Tablac initiated the opening of the Kapanickian Sur Elementary School in the year 1945 in sitio Palali. (That time there were just 3 citios in the barangay: Palali, Gasilac and Ezperanza. And the site where the school was located at present was a part of Citio Palali before). The lot was donated by Mr. Severino M. Romano with a total area of 14,850 sq.m. The school was opened with Grade I and II combination class with Mr. Potenciano Pasicolan from Enrile, Cagayan as the first teacher and teacher in-charge. After four years, Mr. Pasicolan was transferred to Enrile. Mr. Arsenio Guilliermo from Ballesteros took charge of the school until 1957. During this year, the HUKBALAHAP or known as HUK were present, infiltrated the whole Alig Valley. Due to this condition, the school was closed because all the barrio residents were ordered to evacuate from the area. Some families evacuated to Pacac, Burot, Centro and other barrios.

The school was re-opened sometime in 1957 having a multi-grade classes of grade I to III with Mr. Quirino Salvador-Ballesteros Cagayan as teacher-in-charge. Classes continued to exist until it became a compete elementary school and there after sometime in 1966, the Alig Valley Barangay High School was established and existed in the same compound of the elementary school.

At present, the school has 12 permanent teachers including the principal and 4 volunteer teachers.
