Calantac ES, The School of Future Professionals
In the year 1941, the barangay populace established a school to give formal education to their children. They believed that education would lead them to progress and security in life. Through this, a civic spirited citizen in the name of Suzima Orpilla Molina offered her residence to be used as temporary classroom. One classroom was organized and lasted for two (2) years.
Because of the rapid increase in population, bigger school is needed to accommodate bigger number of enrollees. In the year 1947, a person named Estanislao Mendoza who owned a wide portion of land donated a piece of his land wherein a two-storey house style classroom was constructed at Calantac Proper, 20 meters away from the provincial road going North. This was realized through the efforts of the people of the barangay through “BAYANIHAN SYSTEM”. Since then, three (3) teachers were assigned handling combination classes of Grades I, II, III and IV respectively. The said classes lasted for 22 years.
In the year 1969, natural calamities such as typhoons and severe floods always visit the place that caused long disruption of classes and destruction of school properties. This forced the barangay officials, PTCA and barangay folks to transfer the school to the hilly part of the barangay which is now called Purok Namnama, 250 meters away from the provincial road. Through the help of the provincial and municipal government, non-government organizations and other concerned citizens, one permanent school building with 2 rooms (Marcos Building) was constructed.
Year after year, development was brought into this place and school- aged population kept on increasing. Farm to market roads were constructed and this paved way for barangay folks to provide quality education to their children by providing better and bigger school buildings to accommodate bigger number of enrolment, books, desks/chairs and other resources.
In the year 1972, Calantac Elementary School became a complete elementary school with 6 teachers handling Grades I, II, II, IV, V and VI classes respectively.
For SY 2018-2019, the school has a total enrolment of 229 with nine (9) permanent teachers headed by a principal II.
