How Angkiray Got its Name

To get a clear view of the vast agricultural land of Alcala along the winding Cagayan River. You should go to Angkiray Hills. Here you may watch the busy folks in the farm. Take a glimpse of the setting sun or watch farmers hurry to find rest and comfort when the days work is done.

Angkiray Hills was once covered with tall mighty " Kawayan" and "Bayog" Groves especially along the river. The riverbank was therefore a favorite for old folks. Lovers and young children, the cool shade, the whispering trees, the rippling water and the cool breeze had soothing effects to their weary souls.

One day, a child was amused of the ripples created by the dropping of "Kawayan" leaves accented by the rays of the sun which created a glimmering sight. He shouted, "Kitaenyo! Agkiray-kiray dayta danum!"

(Look the water glitters) since then everybody notices the flashing ripples and they utter, " Agkiray-kiray manen diay danum." From then on, they name the place "ANGKIRAY" which mean a glimmer or a flash.
