Malcolm once said, "Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today". This is a true belief that education is life itself. We need education to solve social issues, family issues or financial matters and others.
In the past few decades, we only had 10 years to stay both in the primary and secondary schools. But, as time passed by, world education competition quickly changed and leveled up. It needs to enhance our learners more. Because of this, Philippines had to follow other countries (developed/developing) the new trends in education yo be able to give what the learners needed skills. And this trend of education is called K-12 Curriculum.
K-12 Curriculum is the present education system in our country. It has been existing for 9 years. This curriculum covers 12 years of basic education (6 years primary education, 4 years junior high school and 2 years senior high school) to provide sufficient time for mastery of concepts and skills, develop lifelong learners and prepare graduates for tertiary education, middle-level skills development, employment and entrepreneurship.
This curriculum strengthens early childhood where at age 5, children should start schooling into a formal education. Contextualization and enhancement are also done in making the curriculum relevant to learners. Building proficiency through language is also offered for learners to learn best using their first language.
To ensure mastery of knowledge and skills after each level, spiral progression is followed to gear up graduates future and ready to go to different paths with the aid of being holistically developed Filipinos.
All in all, based on K to 12 Program, every graduate will be equipped with information , media and technology skills, learning and innovations skills, effective communication skills, life and career skills.
