Identify learners that Need Attention in Reading and Remediation through Optimistic and Comprehensive way
(Brigada Pagbasa Intervention and Reading Program)
Rationale
In support of the implementation of the K to 12 Basic Education Program, the Department of Education (DepEd) is continuously fulfilling its mandate to produce productive and responsible citizens equipped with essential competencies and skills for lifelong learning. To make every learner a proficient reader, schools across the country are tasked to help learners develop their reading skills. However such initiatives are still not enough based on the recent results of national assessments for student learning.
There are still many early grade learners struggling to meet the learning standards in early language, literacy and numeracy. Low achievement levels in English, Math and Science appear to be caused by gaps in learners’ reading comprehension. This means that there are many low performing learners who could not comprehend (read and understand) Math and Science word problems that are written in English. Hence, they were unable to demonstrate the knowledge in these content areas.
To attain the goal, Pangalangan Elementary School strengthens the Every Child A reader Program (ECARP) with the following aims: to equip learners with reading skills to make them proficient and independent readers in their grade level; to capacitate teachers to become effective reading teachers; to nurture a culture of reading in school and community. Schools are strongly encouraged to respond to Hamon: Bawat Bata Bumabasa (3Bs Initiatives) by intensifying the advocacy for reading and by pledging commitment to make every learner a reader at his/her grade level.
The project will run through starting August 16,2022 up to June 2023 . Accomplishment Report will be submitted to show proof of implementation of the said activity. As for the budget, amount will be spent for the reading materials for the struggling and non-reader learners, reading center, tarpaulin and other materials needed for the activity.
The whole Pangalangan Elementary School Teaching Force is looking forward to smooth-sailing school year, and safe learners, teachers and community through this project proposal and partnership with our cooperative stakeholders and parents.
Description
To support the 3Bs, Project INAROC (Identifying leaners that Need Attention in Reading and Remediate through Optimistic and Comprehensive way) is intended to identify non-reader learners and struggling learners. The Group Screening Result of PHIL-IRI( Philippine Informal Reading Inventory ) will serve as our basis in identifying the learners’ level and addresses its thrust to make every Filipino child a reader. It is anchored on the flagship program of the Department of Education : Every Child A Reader Program (ECARP,” which aims to make every Filipino child a reader and a writer at his/her grade level.
Also the result in FLAT (Functional Literacy Assessment) will also help in assessing the learners reading level to have an effective reading instruction. Also to develop and deliver appropriate reading lessons to address the learners’ needs. It also serves as a guide in developing lessons and resource materials to cater the learners’ reading levels. It will also help in identifying the learners’ literacy levels to be able to provide effective remediation.
The cooperation of the parents, PTA Officials, Brgy. Officials, SK Officials, LGU and other stakeholders will be tapped to help and guide the non-readers, struggling learners to become a reader in Pangalangan Elementary School and in the 3 participating communities. Reading Hubs/ Centers can be created in school and in the community. Reading Materials will be provided to the non-readers and struggling learners by their teachers. The active participation and full cooperation of the teachers, parents, volunteers, stakeholders will be a great help to our learners.
This intervention/project aims to encourage everyone to become an advocate in reading as well as to fight ignorance and promote love for reading among learners and the community. This intervention will make the Pangalangan ES pupils and Brgy. Pangalangan community to become more aware about the importance of reading.
