Imelda Elementary School (IES) is an institution of learning at Brgy. Imelda, Marcos Ilocos Norte. It is situated 250 meters away west of the national highway. It is surrounded with verdant fields, forest trees, and vegetable gardens. Just in front of the school is a mountain with trees, giving the school fresh and cool air for a healthy clean and green environment. It has an area of 8, 650 sq.m.. It is accessible to any kind of vehicles/transportation.
Everything has its own humble beginning. Like a tree which grew up from a tiny seed, Imelda Elementary School had its simple origin. In 1956, this institution sprouted as Capariaan Primary School since the old name of Brgy. Imelda, Marcos, Ilocos Norte is Capariaan. The name originated from “paria” or ampalaya which was a locally propagated vegetable in the area.
The old name might sound bitter but the pioneer teachers of the school had sweet intentions and big dreams for it. Thus, the very simple Capariaan Primary School with only two classrooms for multigrade teaching – one classroom for Grades 1 and 2 and another for Grades 3 and 4 was established. The pioneer teacher then was Mr. Herminio A. Aquino, a passionate and dedicated educator from Dingras, Ilocos Norte.
In the year 1968, Capariaan Elementary School had produced its first graduates. Thus, this year marked the first fruitful year of the school. Having produced the first set of graduates, Capariaan was considered a budding catalyst of change in the society and was considered then as the biggest school in Marcos – Nueva Era District. It had the most number of teachers for 5 decades because it catered three barangays – Imelda, Lydia and Mabuti. In the year 1982, pioneer teacher Mr. Herminio A. Aquino was promoted as head teacher in recognition of his exemplary performance as an educator. In the succeeding year the name Capariaan Elementary School was changed to Imelda-Mabuti Elementary School. During this time, Mr. Aquino was still the Head Teacher. These years had been so productive with Mr. Aquino’s leadership and so in 1985, Mr. Aquino was formally promoted as Principal I with its annex in Barangay Mabuti. With a more formal setup of having a school principal, Imelda-Mabuti Elementary School had been a producer of responsible, value-oriented and competitive citizens.
In the year 1999, Mr. Herminio Aquino retired as principal. After his retirement he was succeeded by Mr. Salustiano B. Andres who was appointed as Officer-in-Charge of the school. With a new administration, Imelda-Mabuti Elementary School continued its legacy as a frontliner in primary education in the town of Marcos, Ilocos Norte.
In the year 2000, Imelda-Mabuti Elementary School was renamed to Imelda Elementary School with then Principal Jovita N. Reyes from Piddig, Ilocos Norte. In 2004, Miss Reyes culminated her 4 years of dedicated service when she retired. With this, a new OIC, Mrs. Helen F. Taguinod was appointed. Her one year (from 2004-2005) of selfless service and dedication as OIC yielded laurels for the school.
In 2005, a new principal was appointed in the person of Mrs. Rowena T. Rabang from Marcos, Ilocos Norte. Her administration also sustained the legacy of the school in academic supremacy. In 2013, she retired and so Mrs. Noralyn A. Dela Cruz succeeded her, with 9 active and dedicated teachers. IES’s empowered faculty continue to ignite its torch of excellence in the field of education through the School Principal I, Mrs. Noralyn A. Dela Cruz’s leadership.
In 2018, Mrs. Noralyn A. Dela Cruz transferred to Sta. Maria ES of the Division of Laoag City and was succeded by Mr. Reden Keith L. Nonato, appointed as OIC-Teacher III for four months.
January of 2019, Mr. Novie R. Bumanglag transferred to Imelda Elementary School as Head Teacher III from Fortuna Elementary School. With his leadership, the school continued to prosper and the teachers were inspired to do more. Last June of 2023, he transferred to Biding Elementary School and Mr. Elrey M. Limbaoan, also a Head Teacher III of Tabucbuc Elementary School transferred to Imelda Elementary School. He is a man of words and did show this institution that many things can be done with great determination and a good heart that values the essence of learning. For the three months that he stayed at IES, he did inspired the Learners, Parents and Teachers. In September 1, 2023 he finally retired from service in education to serve his home Barangay of Escoda, Marcos, Ilocos Norte as Brgy. Captain and by God’s grace and the love of his fellow Escodeans, he is now serving as their Barangay Captain after being victorious in the recently held Barangay and SK Elections 2023.
On September 1, 2023, Mr. Reden Keith L. Nonato is the appointed OIC and was promoted to Head Teacher III on April 2, 2024.
