Ceramics: The Body
Fall 2020 | DePauw University
This studio art class, taught by Meredith Brickell, focuses on human figures as related to historical and contemporary ceramics. Course content includes technical rendering skills in clay, representations of identity, performance art, storytelling, collaborative art practices, and more.
For the final two weeks of the semester, students created a stop motion animation film using polymer clay, found materials and the Stop Motion Studio app. Each student developed two or more characters that interact with one another to tell a story through movement, gesture, and/or expression. As part of this process, students invested hours in storyboard development, creating characters, and building sets. The resulting collection of films reflects students' interests in politics, humor, interpersonal relationships, and more.
