The "Globalizing Ovid" conference will be held at the Conference Center (会议中心) at Shanghai Normal University, Guilin Road #100, Xuhui District, Shanghai (徐汇区桂林路100号上海师范大学西区)on May 31-June 2, 2017.
Visa
Non-Chinese citizens will need a visa to travel to mainland China unless they come from one of the visa exempt countries. The time needed for obtaining a visa and the application fees vary from country to country. Please check the websites of the Chinese embassy and consulates in the country where you plan to apply for a Chinese visa.
Airport
If you travel internationally, you will use the Pudong International Airport (PVG). The most convenient way of getting to Shanghai Normal University from PVG is by taxi. The cost is about $35 per cab for about an hour's ride.
Getting to the Hotel
Taking a cab is the easiest way of getting to the hotel. Cabs are generally inexpensive and reliable in Shanghai. The lines for taxi at PVG tend to be very long, but very organized and move fast. Alternatively, you may take the Maglev at PVG and switch to a cab at the final destination of the Maglev.
The cab drivers can only take cash in RMB or Shanghai Transit Cards. It is therefore helpful to exchange some RMB at the exchange desks at the airport.
We will try to have volunteers at the airport on May 27, 28, 29 and 30 to orient the delegates who arrive on these days. But if it happens that we are short staffed and you don’t see anyone (with signs or wearing the conference T-shirt), please follow the airport signs to the taxi line or the Maglev. PVG is a standard international airport and things are well sign-posted in both Chinese and English.
Conference participants are encouraged to inform the Organizational Committee (at both liujinyu@shnu.edu.cn and jliu@depauw.edu) of their travel schedules ahead of time so that the Conference can help arrange car-pooling and/or airport pick-ups. (The hotel information can be found under "Registration".)
About Shanghai
Shanghai is one of the world’s most lively cities. It is a modern, multicultural metropolis of over twenty million people, famed for blending business and pleasure. We hope that you find time to enjoy Shanghai outside of the intense intellectual engagement at the Conference.
