These policies are designed to ensure a safe, respectful, and productive environment for all members of the school community. Thank you for your cooperation in following these guidelines.
Library Learning Commons Access:
All students are welcome to use the library facilities during designated hours.
Students on spare periods are required to sign in at the circulation desk upon entering the library.
Behavior Expectations:
Students are expected to conduct themselves respectfully and responsibly while in the library.
Loud or disruptive behavior, misuse of library materials, or failure to follow library staff instructions is not tolerated.
There are no food or drinks allowed in the learning commons.
Computers are to be used for academic purposes.
Learning Commons resources, furniture and computers are meant to be used accordingly and appropriately.
Teacher Permission:
Students who visit the library during class time must present a signed note from their teacher indicating the purpose of their visit.
Without a note, students may be asked to return to class or obtain permission from a teacher or administrator.
Borrowing Materials:
Students are permitted to sign out a maximum of five resources at one time.
Non-Fiction and Fiction books must be returned after 3 weeks.
Students are responsible for returning borrowed materials on time and in good condition.
Technology Use:
Access to library computers and other technology resources is provided for educational purposes.
Students are expected to adhere to the school's acceptable use policy when using library computers and online resources.
Personal Digital Devices:
Students are not permitted to use their personal digital devices (PDDs) at school during instructional time, which includes ILT and study blocks.
Before school, after school, time between classes and lunch time is not considered instructional time.
Students are expected to store their personal digital devices (ie. Cell phones) in a designated place (for example: classroom cell phone holders, student backpacks or student lockers).
Students’ PDD’s are to be separate from themselves during instructional time to ensure all environments within the school are conducive to learning.
For example, students are not to have their phones on themselves (ie: pockets of pants or jackets, or with them on a desk/table) during instructional time or in the hallways during instructional time.
Students who have their personal digital device out during instructional time, will be asked to place it in the classroom cell phone holder.
Staff members will collect PDD’s from students who do not respect the guidelines within Procedure 145 and will be considered in contravention of the code of conduct.
Study Areas and Collaboration:
Quiet study areas are available for students who need a quiet environment for focused work.
Collaboration spaces are provided for group study sessions and collaborative projects.
Students are encouraged to use these spaces respectfully, keeping noise levels appropriate for the designated area.
Food and Drink:
Food and drinks are not permitted in the library, with the exception of water in spill-proof containers.
Students are expected to clean up after themselves and dispose of any trash or recyclables properly.
Lost or Damaged Materials:
Students are responsible for the replacement cost of any library materials that are lost or damaged while in their possession.
Fees for lost or damaged items must be paid promptly to maintain borrowing privileges.
Library staff will announce when it is time to exit the library, and students are expected to leave promptly.
