Mr. Neglia's 8th Grade Language Arts Literacy Class

Class overview

Students in 8th grade Language Arts Literacy will read a variety of literary pieces selected from short stories, nonfiction, poetry, and drama. They will be able to identify elements within literature and learn how the authors develop those elements. The Prentice Hall Literature Anthology is our core literature text. Class readings will include: The Pearl, Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie, Old Man and the Sea, The Hound of the Baskervilles, Monster, Thunder Dog, Night, Lord of the Flies, Ready Player One, and The Diary of Anne Frank as well as additional novels. In Honors, some of these readings will be read independently and will require extensive time at home by the students to complete. Class discussions will occur daily on the assigned readings, and assessments will be given to measure the comprehension of each novel. Students will also be reading a variety of novels from our library (including e-books).
