Welcome back!

I am very excited to start the school year with my new Eighth Grade Class. I know this year is going to have some challenges, but I am confident we can get through these challenging times together as a class and school family. I want our classroom to be a safe, happy, nurturing, and productive environment to learn and grow!

The safety of your child will always be my first priority. I will be following our school plan to ensure the wellness of our entire school community. Parent support is key to student success and I fully believe in the partnership and teamwork between teacher and parent. I know our 2020-2021 school year will be successful as we work together with patience and understanding to give our kids the best Eighth Grade experience!

Class overview

Science is a required course for all students in seventh and eighth grade. Seventh grade science is designed as an introductory course for high school physics and chemistry. Eighth grade science is designed as an introductory course for high school biology. The content for both grade levels is based on the newly adopted Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). Not only will students learn topics specific to their grade level standards, but also gain valuable insight into the way the world works, as well as acquire a knowledge of technology and the scientific and technological aspects that play a part in our daily lives. In addition, students will learn about 21st century skills, reading, writing, mathematics and study skills which are reinforced throughout the curriculum. Students’ grades are based upon class participation, classwork, homework, quizzes, tests, laboratory work ( pending Covid-19 ) , projects and the marking period assessments.
