Sometimes, the best tool is one you build yourself! And, since BandLab as not been a reliable tool for us in a classroom setting, I went ahead and built a reliable drum grid we can use to build our own beats and even sync our beats to audio clips! 

It's as interactive as it gets, with lesson exercises, basic music theory (rhythm), a full-featured drum grid, and the ability to download your creations as a MIDI file for use with any major music software supporting MIDI (all DAWs, like Ableton, Logic, ProTools, Garage Band, etc. will open MIDI files).
