Educational Philosophy & What to Expect in 6th Grade

Welcome to 6th Grade!

I'm really looking forward to knowing every student and guiding our 6th graders through their final year at Torrey Hills. Sixth graders are ready to take on the world in their own way, and I love them for it.

2023-24 will be my 23rd year in Del Mar.  I have taught 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grades. I'm especially excited about sixth grade science and, of course, going to Sixth Grade Camp.

About This Year  . . .

We will read, write, and problem-solve every day.  We’ll learn about microbiology, weather patterns, and engineering.  We’ll study ancient civilizations, famous philosophers, and world geography.  We’ll read and write dozens of stories, articles, and essays.  We’ll calculate using negative numbers, fractions, and ratios.  We’ll exercise every day, make art, learn some Spanish, and have tons of fun!

About once a week, parents can expect an e-mail update on our class work, upcoming projects, and important dates. Feel free to contact me with any questions you have about our program.

I can’t wait to spend the year with you!

Life Outside of the Hawk's Nest

I have three grown children and one little grandson, and I love to spend time with all of them.  I’m also fortunate beyond measure to share my life with one of Del Mar’s most talented teachers, David Skinner. We have a cute cat, Willow, and a scruffy dog, Walter.  My family likes to camp, sail, and ride bikes.  As many of you probably do, we spend a lot of time at the beach.
