I believe every student is capable of accomplishing incredible things as they discover their passions and maximize their potential.
As a World Languages instructor, I am committed to helping each of my students make sense of the world as they consider new perspectives, learn about themselves and their own cultures, and discover the fascinating ways of the world through the lens of Spanish language. Intercultural competence, an appreciation for diversity, and solid foundations in communication are key to my approach to World Language instruction. I am thrilled to start the year with 6th Grade - it's going to be so much fun!
Throughout the year, students will answer the questions of why we learn Spanish (or any World Language?). What does it mean to have cross-cultural competence? How can we develop communication skills and get our point across even if we lack the vocabulary? In answering these questions, we will explore such topics as cultural traditions, the history and geography of the Spanish-speaking world, and dynamics of global development.
My greatest hope is that students learn to love Spanish and discover all the doors that language learning can open!
Outside of class, Profe Burke's interests include hiking, gardening, listening to music (mostly 90's), traveling (wherever!), and enjoying life with family and friends. Plus COFFEE!
