What to Expect in Third Grade
I thrive on creating an environment and opportunities that tap into each child’s uniqueness, talents, and passions, while fostering the skills that matter most. I also thrive with challenge, like teaching and raising children during the pandemic, or when I had cancer. Nine years ago, I was diagnosed and took medical leave to undergo treatment. For me, stopping teaching was like stopping breathing. However, that year my students learned about more important skills as they saw me accept fear, conquer a battle, and demonstrate resilience. They observed a united community help a family in need. During the pandemic, I feel that I was able to transform that challenging experience for each of my students. By supporting them and their families, I could still give them a strong educational foundation while also remembering to focus on joy, reflection, gratitude, and the bigger life lessons. Every opportunity is a teachable moment. My hope is when encountering a difficult time in their own lives, my students will have learned from my example. This is what excites me about teaching.
What to Expect in Third Grade
Third Grade is a wonderful year of growth and discovery! We adventure through a range of grade level standards, finding joy in becoming self-extending readers and writers as well as more informed and powerful thinkers in mathematics. Science studies are ripe with amazing topics such as force & motion, weather, and ecosystems. We'll venture into ideas in social studies that help us grow into empathetic and empowered citizens of our families, schools, and communities.
Life Outside of the Ocean
When not at school, you will find me reading, gardening, jogging, laughing, and running around with my family. Life is great.
