Welcome to Pacific Sky and Ocean Air!
Welcome to art! I cannot wait to create and explore with all of you! My name is Ms. Szymkiewicz which looks a little scary but is not hard to pronounce: "shim-kay-vich."
I earned my Master of Arts in Teaching (Art PreK-12) from Notre Dame of Maryland University in 2022. I graduated from the University of Maryland in 2019 with a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art (and also in English Language/Literature!) I taught art to PreK-8th grade in Baltimore, MD for the past 4 years, and I am so excited to work with the young artists in Del Mar this year!

What to Expect in Art
In the art classroom, students will be given the opportunity to explore a variety of art materials and techniques, and they will gain creative confidence through student-directed learning. We will focus on the Studio Habits of Mind--intentional thinking habits that will guide students to build their own creative processes for independently planning and developing and works of art. In the studio, students will have the agency to experiment, make mistakes, and dream big to create artwork that excites them!
Life Outside the Hangar
Outside of school I love to make art of my own! Painting, printmaking, and drawing are some of my favorite media for my own art. When I am not making creating, you can usually find me running, walking, or hiking! I also love reading a good book or relaxing by the water.
