What to Expect in 5th Grade
5th grade is an incredible year where students grow more independent and confident. Students deepen their understanding of literature, sharpen their academic and creative writing skills, and learn strategies to read and research critically. Students engage in new mathematical concepts including fractions, decimals and exponents. Fifth graders explore all about America's history. They will engage in scientific concepts around Matter, Patterns of Earth and Sky, and Earth's Systems. Fifth grade is truly an exciting year!
In addition to academic growth, fifth graders learn to manage their time wisely, set priorities, and organize their assignments. They will become more independent and learn to self-advocate by communicating with their teacher and using all resources available to them. Fifth graders also build close and lasting friendships with their peers and enjoy opportunities for collaborative assignments and teamwork. You can help support and empower your child by giving them the freedom to 'take charge' of their learning.
I am committed to helping your child feel connected to their classmates and enthusiastic about fifth grade. We're going to have a great year!
