Welcome to 5th grade!
Hello! My name is Taylor Singer, and I’m thrilled to be teaching 5th grade again at Del Mar Hills. This is my 6th year at our school and my fourth year teaching 5th grade. I earned my BA in Sociology with a Minor in Education and Applied Psychology from UC Santa Barbara, where I also had the unforgettable opportunity to study abroad in Barcelona, Spain.
Before becoming a teacher, I worked in sales and business development in the startup sector, but my passion for working with children led me to earn a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential and a Master of Education with an emphasis on English Language Learner Education. I’ve taught 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades, and I feel incredibly fortunate to spend my days with our amazing students.
I look forward to another year of learning and growth with our Surfriders!

I believe that fostering strong relationships with students is at the heart of effective education. I am dedicated to creating a classroom environment where every student feels valued, respected, and supported. By building meaningful connections, I aim to create a safe and nurturing space where students are encouraged to take academic risks and explore new ideas with confidence. My teaching philosophy centers on the belief that when students feel secure and understood, they are more likely to engage deeply with the learning process and reach their full potential. I am committed to cultivating a positive, inclusive atmosphere that promotes both academic growth and social-emotional development. Through personalized support and collaborative learning experiences, I strive to inspire my students to become curious, compassionate, and confident learners.
Fifth grade is a year of tremendous growth. Students will have opportunities to develop academically, socially, and emotionally. Throughout the year, students will explore new ways of thinking, collaborate across academic content areas, and engage in real-world problem solving.
In fifth grade, we encourage a high level of independence, responsibility, and student ownership in learning. We will begin to prepare students for the rigorous expectations that will be required in middle school and beyond. There are so many exciting topics to explore this year! Some of which include: Earth's Ecosystems, The Solar System, American History, Government and Civics, Order of Operations, and Geometry. We will continue to explore literature and non-fiction texts and students will be provided ample opportunities to develop their writing capabilities across our 3 focus genres.
We recognize the importance of teamwork among teachers, parents, and students to help each child realize their full potential. Thank you for your support - together, we can achieve great things!
I was born and raised in sunny San Diego, and I am truly grateful to call this beautiful place home. When I'm not at school, I value spending time outdoors with family and friends. Some of my hobbies include hot yoga, traveling, and hiking. On weekends, you’ll often find me at the beach, the farmer's market, or playing tennis. I am looking forward to an extraordinary year ahead and am excited to spend my days with my wonderful students!
