Educational Philosophy & What to Expect in 1st Grade

Educational Philosophy

As an educator, I believe in a child-centered, differentiated approach to education. This means honoring students’ learning styles and their developmental stage by employing differentiated methods to inform instruction in order to meet each child’s individual needs.

I am passionate about a whole-child approach to education; where social, emotional, and academic development are inextricably linked. When entering my classroom, it is common to see our classroom sitting together in community building circles—engaging in games, activities, and whole-class conversations that promote positive relationships. Fostering social and emotional awareness and enhancing children’s psychological well-being is a key part of how I foster a joyful and nurturing classroom.

I see teaching as a craft—one in which educators must collaborate together as a community of reflective practitioners. As a professional, I enjoy seeking out opportunities to learn and improve my practice.

What to Expect in 1st Grade:

First Grade is where the magic happens and students' abilities in reading, writing, and math grow in leaps and bounds. Because of this, the world opens to them, enabling them to develop new connections between concepts and explore new curiosities. Here’s to a fantastic year!

Life Outside of the Coyote Den

I currently live in North Park with my husband, Clay, and our two French bulldogs, Flynn and Olive. In my free time, I love spending time outside, exercising, traveling, reading, listening to podcasts, trying new restaurants and coffee shops, and hanging out with family and friends.
