Educational Philosophy & What to Expect in STEAM+ Music

I believe that the teaching of every core academic subject contributes to developing some aspect of human nature. Math and science teach biological and intellectual parts of our nature. PE develops the physical characteristics. The arts nurture creativity and aesthetics. Education provides an ideal forum for the integration of core subjects contributing to the development of multiple human characteristics. When we understand the artistic nature of humanity and are willing to teach and develop that aspect, we will be compelled to educate our DMUSD students in the arts and they will not be aesthetically underdeveloped.

This year in music we will experience learning in several different ways that spark creativity and higher-level thinking. We will engage in imitation, exploration, improvisation, and visualization to reinforce music skills. We will sing songs that help us properly develop our melodic voices and include lyrics that support integration with classroom instruction. We will have fun playing instruments that help us understand rhythm and pitch while learning a varied repertoire of music. We will learn how to read music notation and write our own compositions that demonstrate the connections with music, math, science and technology. We will learn about famous composers and their genres. Our young students will experience an incredible journey through music!

Life Outside of School

When I'm not teaching, I love spending time with my family & friends, attending live performances & sporting events, traveling, gardening, and doing DIY projects. I'm looking forward to seeing you in class and sharing our joy of music together.
