Sage Canyon School
Greetings! My name is Kristyn Braund and I am thrilled to be your child’s first grade teacher this year. I am a graduate of Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. I studied education and received both my bachelor’s degree and teaching credential through their fabulous integrated program. After finishing my undergraduate degree, I relocated down to San Diego and have been a part of the Sage Canyon family ever since. I received my Masters’ in Curriculum and Instruction from San Diego State University and this will be my 21st year teaching first grade at Sage Canyon. During the 2014-2015 school year I was honored as Sage Canyon's Teacher of the Year.
I believe that all students can be successful. The key to being an educator is finding the success in every student. Every child is unique, special, and has their own individual strengths. A child's learning in dependent upon how the educator engages the student, and helps bring the learning alive. The classroom is where fundamentals are taught, imagination is encouraged, relationships are created, and future citizens are developed. It is a place where students can freely express themselves, take risks, and continually feel supported. I have shared with many families in the past that I was inspired to join this profession by my first grade teacher, Mrs. Bowers. I told her at the end of the year, that I was going to grow up and be just like her. Sure enough, I did! Watching students grow both academically and socially is such a rewarding experience and I hope that each student that joins our classroom community feels loved, nurtured, and accepted.
First Grade is where the magic happens and students' abilities in reading, writing, and math grow in leaps and bounds. Because of this, the world opens to them, enabling them to develop new connections between concepts and explore new curiosities. Here’s to a fantastic year!
When I'm not on campus, I love spending time with my family and friends. My husband Mike and I have been married for 19 years. Our daughter Kensington is a 7th grader at PTMS. On the weekends we enjoy traveling, watching the Padres while swimming, going to the beach, hanging out with friends, cuddling up for family movie nights, and cheering on the Steelers.
One of my favorite hobbies is creating photo books. I love capturing memories of our Braund family adventures and then having an opportunity to come back and look a them years later.
