My role as an educator is to empower and engage students so they become active participants in their learning. Lessons are grounded in relevant activities and projects and students are encouraged to research and discover beyond the limits of our classroom. Our 2nd grade lessons are designed to be student-centered and academically rigorous, and through regular feedback and goal setting, students are encouraged to reach their full potential. Room 202 is a warm and welcoming environment where all learners are accepted, encouraged to take risks, and allowed to make mistakes without judgement. Embracing diversity, practicing self-control, maintaining empathy for others and integrity for ourselves, and always doing our best are the keys agreements I strive for in creating a community of learners.
Second grade promises to be a fun and exciting year. Second graders can expect to become stronger readers by honing all the skills they have learned in Kinder and First. Students will read and understand more complicated text and learn to read more independently as they progress in fluency, analyzing text, and comprehension. Students will also begin to write more in-depth paragraphs in all three genres (narrative, opinion, and informative) learning to add descriptive details, substantiating opinions, and researching topics of interest to them. 2nd Grade mathematicians will develop many new and efficient strategies for problem solving using manipulatives and mental math and we dive deep into 2nd grade standards with games, activities, critical thinking, and MART (math-art). School projects in science and social studies will involve research, critical thinking, design thinking, collaboration, and most importantly, loads of FUN!!
I am originally from Connecticut and moved to California in 2000. I have lived in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and have called San Diego home for the past 5 years. In my spare time I can be found playing beach volleyball and tennis, at the gym working out, or at the dog beach with my best friend and pup, Louie.
