Educational Experience:
This year is my 32nd year of teaching. I have been fortunate to have a wide variety of experiences, including teaching almost every grade level, in the science lab, and now as an Innovation Technologist. I base my teaching on the latest brain-based research, and am passionate about incorporating coding, robotics, engineering and design into our Design Den studies. I received my teaching credential from UCSD and continue to take classes in a wide variety of subject matter to keep current in my profession.

Educational Philosophy
Teaching Philosophy: William Butler Yeats said, ‘Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.’ This quote is the focus of my teaching philosophy. It is my daily goal to create a student-centered environment where experiences are real-life, engaging, hands-on and meaningful. Within this learning environment we are all teachers and learners, and we work as a collaboratively to support and care for each other.
WHAT TO EXPECT IN THE DESIGN DEN THIS YEAR
As Innovation Technologist I will provide a variety of learning experiences for the students. Using the design thinking process and multiple technologies and resources, I will develop inquiry-based learning experiences for students that promote critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication.
Life Outside of the Hawk's Nest
I am very active and love to run, swim, bike, hike, dance and play pickleball. I also love to learn, and I read, listen to podcasts, and research about all kinds of topics. Music is one of my favorite things, and I listen to a wide variety of tunes and play the piano and guitar. One of my favorite parts of teaching is learning from the students, each and every day!
