I am very excited to be teaching 2nd grade this year!!! This will be my third year in 2nd grade at Carmel Del Mar. I taught 3rd grade for 5 years and 1st grade for 14 years at Del Mar Hills Academy. I attended California State University, Sacramento where I received my BA in Early Childhood Development in 2001. I earned my California Teaching Credential in 2003 from California State University, Long Beach.

I have always loved working with children. I strive to create a stimulating and creative working environment where all students feel part of the classroom community. I believe creative thinking and problem solving are important aspects of learning, as well as peer collaboration. My hope is that every student have a love of learning to take with them throughout life.

What to Expect in Second Grade
What to Expect in Second Grade
Second grade is an amazing year of growth! Second graders become stronger readers by engaging in more complicated text and learn to read more independently as they progress in fluency, and comprehension. Students will also begin to write more in-depth paragraphs in all three genres (narrative, opinion, and informative) learning to add descriptive details. 2nd Grade mathematicians will develop many new and efficient strategies for problem solving using manipulatives and mental math and we dive deep into 2nd grade standards with games, activities, and critical thinking. School projects in science and social studies will involve research, critical thinking, design thinking, collaboration, and most importantly, loads of FUN!!

I was born and raised in San Diego, CA. I attended Del Mar Hills Academy kindergarten through 6th grade as a child. I currently live in Escondido with my husband, 11 year old daughter, 2 dogs, and 2 cats. We love to go camping with our friends, family, and our dogs.
