I graduated from high school here in S.D. from the S.D. School of the Creative and Performing Arts. I received my B.A. in Sociology with a minor in music from Point Loma Nazarene University in 1995. After working in social work for two years, I received my teaching credential in 1997 and began teaching in the DMUSD. I am currently in my 29th year of teaching and have taught second and third grade.
You can look forward to learning so many exciting things this year! In third grade, students go on exciting journeys as readers, expanding their ability to read critically beyond the text and apply critical-thinking reading strategies. As writers, they will strengthen their skills to add descriptive details, figurative language, and more sophisticated sentence structure in all three genres including narrative, opinion, and expository. As mathematicians, they will hone their ability to critically think through problem solving in all four operations, learn more deeply about multiplication, division, and fractions, and build upon second grade skills in measurement. We will engage in exciting learning about local San Diego history, including the Kumeyaay Native American tribe, and experience fun science adventures about animal and plant adaptations, forces and motion, and weather and climate! Third grade is an amazing year of growth and I am so excited to be a part of it with you!
When I am not having fun with third graders, I love to spend time with my family. My daughter, Emma, is now a senior at UCSD, studying political science/pre-law. My son just graduated from Torrey Pines High School in May and will be starting at Mira-Costa College before transferring to a UC, studying aerospace engineering. We love to go to the beach, boogie-board, have fun at Disneyland, go shopping, take hikes, make dinners together, and watch movies. I love to read and enjoy exchanging books with friends. I love to cross-stitch, run on the beach, volunteer in the community, and play piano and sing. I teach private piano lessons and love music. I love to bake and have a not-so-secret love of candy! I love the color red and anything with polka-dots! My favorite thing about any day is laughing and I try to do so often!
