Sycamore Ridge School
Welcome to 5th Grade!
Hi! I’m Mrs. Jeni Cass, and I am thrilled to be entering my 23rd year in education and my 11th year at Sycamore Ridge School. Fifth grade is a milestone year filled with growth, discovery, and new achievements. I can’t wait to partner with you and watch these incredible Stallions shine!
Educational Background & Experience
A native San Diegan, I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies and teaching credential from San Diego State University in 2004. Early in my career, I taught kindergarten and third grade in Roseville, California, before returning home to San Diego. In 2012, I completed my Master’s in Reading along with a Reading Specialist Credential. Over the past two decades, I’ve had the privilege of teaching students across grades K–8. I am also an active member of several professional learning communities, including the San Diego Area Writing Project, dedicated to bringing dynamic, research-backed learning strategies into the classroom.

Educational Philosophy
My goal is to create a safe, supportive classroom where students feel empowered to take positive risks, ask big questions, and engage in meaningful, purposeful learning. I strive to help every student take ownership of their educational journey—building critical thinking skills, self-confidence, and strong, positive relationships along the way. Above all, I want every child to leave my classroom knowing they are deeply valued and supported. Together, we are building a classroom community of thoughtful, confident, and compassionate lifelong learners.
What to Expect in 5th Grade
Fifth grade is a vibrant year of academic growth, personal discovery, and emerging independence. In our classroom, students will be encouraged to take initiative, think critically, and cultivate a genuine enthusiasm for learning within a nurturing environment. Strong partnerships make all the difference—when teachers, parents, and students collaborate as a team, incredible things happen. I look forward to working closely with you to make this a joyful, successful school year!
Outside of school, I love spending quality time with my family. My husband Todd and I live in Poway with our three energetic kids—Mackenzie (8th grade), Benjamin (7th grade), and Jacob (5th grade)—along with our sweet black English Labs, Luna and Tsuki. Whether we’re cheering on the Padres, enjoying the outdoors, or making memories together, family is at the heart of everything I do.
