Welcome, Pacific Sky families - I began my teaching career in the small town of Rainier, Washington, and this year marks my 19th year in education. I have spent most of my career teaching fifth and sixth grade, with one year in fourth grade. I especially enjoy working with students at this age as they develop greater independence, confidence, and ownership of their learning.
I earned my bachelor’s degree from Washington State University and a master’s degree in Administrative Leadership from Grand Canyon University. I also hold an Associate of Applied Science degree in Microcomputer Technology, which has helped shape my interest in using technology, media, and creativity to enhance student learning.

I love being a teacher, especially the opportunity to know each student as an individual and help them recognize what they are capable of. My classroom is a place where students are encouraged to think deeply, ask questions, set meaningful goals, and grow both academically and personally. I want students to feel comfortable being themselves, sharing their voices, and contributing their unique perspectives to our learning community. By creating a culture where mistakes are viewed as part of the learning process, students become more willing to take risks, explore new ideas, and develop the confidence and independence they need to thrive.
Sixth grade is an exciting year of academic growth, increased independence, and preparation for middle school. Students will continue developing as authors by creating narrative, informational, and argument writing pieces for a variety of purposes and audiences. As readers, they will explore, discuss, critique, and analyze a wide range of texts while learning to support their thinking with evidence.
In mathematics, students will strengthen their problem-solving skills as they investigate ratios, percents, statistics, geometry, fractions, and other important concepts. They will also explore ancient civilizations and engage in scientific investigations involving topics such as microorganisms, traits and reproduction, and thermal energy.
Throughout the year, students will be encouraged to ask questions, think deeply, collaborate, communicate their ideas, set goals, and reflect on their growth. Sixth grade is not only about preparing students academically for middle school—it is also about helping them become more confident, responsible, adaptable, and independent learners.
Outside the classroom, I enjoy being outdoors and staying active. A great day for me includes taking my dogs, Tina and Gary, for a walk with some music in my ears—especially when the walk leads to the beach or one of San Diego’s canyons. I also enjoy following sports and cheering on my favorite teams. Go Seahawks! I’m a bit of a tech enthusiast as well and enjoy exploring new platforms, creative tools, and gadgets.
