Del Mar Hills Academy
My name is Ashlyn LeeChicas and I am excited to be the 4th grade Spanish Language Immersion Program teacher at Del Mar Hills Elementary again this year!
I graduated from University of California, San Diego (UCSD) with a B.S. in Education Studies and a B.A. in Human Developmental Sciences. Additionally, I went on to receive a Masters in Education from UCSD.
I previously taught 5th grade at Valley Elementary in Poway Unified School District and 4th grade at Del Mar Hills. I grew up in Encinitas, California and attended a Dual Language Immersion program, which was a Spanish and English bilingual learning program.
I look forward to collaborating with you to support your child’s growth and success this year.

I am passionate about creating an engaging learning environment for students to support them in developing the skills they will use to navigate the world around them. Within my lesson plans, I actively look for opportunities to incorporate elements from students' community into the material. This allows students to see the importance of what they are learning and begin to apply their understanding of academic material outside of the classroom.
I am passionate about fostering bilingualism and biliteracy in students. This year we will have a multitude of opportunities throughout the day to practice our language skills and I strongly encourage them to take advantage of the time we have to practice our language development.
This year will be filled with opportunities for students to explore new concepts and develop their language skills. Students will develop their problem-solving skills and see the real-world applications of mathematical concepts while working within a supportive and inclusive classroom environment.
Growing up in Encinitas, I’ve always enjoyed hiking and spending time outdoors. I value moments spent with family and friends, which enrich my life and inspire my work as an educator. I also enjoy trying new recipes, finding new restaurants, and exploring new places.
