Sage Canyon School
Welcome to a new school year. I am Amy Asselin and I am so excited to be your child's fourth grade teacher! I work hard to create a student-centered learning environment where my students feel supported, challenged, and excited about their learning. I value building positive relationships, collaboration, and a growth mindset. My goals is to foster a classroom where students are motivated to take risks, make connections, share their voice, and be creative.

What to Expect in Fourth Grade
Welcome to fourth grade! Fourth grade is an exciting year where students build independence and confidence as they advance in their education.... and we'll have a lot of fun together.
Academically, we will explore a range of new concepts. In math, we will explore place value, multiplication and division, fractions, decimals, perimeter and area by solving real-life problems. In Language Arts, we will read and interpret fiction and nonfiction texts, enhance our writing through narratives, opinions, and informational essays, and expand our grammar and vocabulary. In social studies, we'll analyze California's history from native tribes to westward expansion, as well as the role of California's natural resources. Science will cover topics like vision and light, waves, energy, earth's features, and energy conversions.
Our fourth graders are encouraged to take charge of their learning this year and will develop essential skills like time management, prioritization, and organization. Together, we'll learn to self-advocate, work collaboratively, and build healthy social connections. We will strengthen our emotional well-being by learning strategies for managing emotions and building resilience.

Life Outside of the Coyote Den
At home, my husband and I are kept busy by my twelve year old daughter who is starting middle school and our playful dog Finn. In my spare time I like to read, work in my garden, bake, spend time with my friends and family, and travel.
