Welcome to Pacific Sky

Mrs. Allard, 5th Grade Teacher

Welcome to the fabulous fifth grade! We will have a remarkable year as we soar to new heights at Pacific Sky.

I grew up in Champaign, Illinois. I began the flute as part of the 5th grade music program in elementary school music has been an integral part of my life ever since. After receiving a Music Performance Degree from the University of Illinois and a Music Education Degree from the University of Minnesota, I began my teaching career as a middle school band director in Atlanta, Georgia.  After moving to California in 2004, I taught in Carlsbad before moving to the Del Mar Union School District in 2007 where I have taught music, integration, and grades 3-5.

I am the 2019-2020 Del Mar Hills Academy Teacher of the Year, the 2019-2020 Teacher of the Year for the Del Mar Union School District, and a 2020 San Diego County Teacher of the Year. In 2023, I received my Masters in Education Leadership form the High Tech High Graduate School of Education.

Educational Philosophy & What to Expect in Fifth Grade

I strive to give each student learning opportunities designed to inspire and challenge.  My goal is to move students from dependent learners to independent thinkers. As we create our class community, students will build skills that will help them flourish in fifth grade and beyond.

In fifth grade we learn about the United States- How does our country function? How did we become a country? What problems can we identify and work to solve in our community? We will use things we learn in Social Studies, Science, Math, and Language Arts to help us answer these and other questions students may have.

Life Outside the Hangar

I live in Escondido with my husband, two teenage daughters, and Bernedoodle Benny. I love reading, singing, and working on puzzles. Currently, I am learning to knit and trying to learn French and to play the guitar. I am excited and proud to serve students and families in Del Mar and welcome you to a new year of learning!
