Meet our School Chaplain
Fr. Michael [Clement] Suhy, OSB
The seed which our Lord plants for every vocation is the discovery of how awesome it is to be a Christian. This happened to Fr. Michael when he was about 9 years old: lying in bed at night, he would weep as he had the profound realization of how much the Father loves us in that He gave us His Son, Jesus, and that Jesus died on the Cross for us.
His initial response was: I want to give all that I have back to God!
He was born in East Detroit and raised in Canton in a wonderful Catholic family: his mom and dad had seven children. He is the third of six boys in a row, and then our Lord blessed his mom with her first and only daughter.
It was in his freshmen year at Detroit Catholic Central when our Lord planted the seed of his vocation to the priesthood. Encountering a holy Catholic Priest, Fr. Ned Donoher, he heard a spontaneous prayer in his heart: I want to love Jesus and His people just like Fr. Ned!
During his senior year of college at Magdalen College in Warner, NH, he was invited by a monk of St. Meinrad Archabbey in Indiana, to join him in starting a new Benedictine community in Rome, Italy. He was the first young man to make vows for the new community on July 16th, 2000 in Rome, at which time he received the religious name of Clement. That very same year, the young monastery moved from Rome to the birthplace of Saints Benedict and Scholastica in Nursia (Norcia), Italy. He made his solemn vows on the feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary on June 28th 2003, and after completing his theology studies at the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross in Rome, he was ordained to the priesthood on February 10, 2005, the feast of St. Scholastica.
On October 7, 2007, he became the pastor in Italy of a small parish in the mountains that covered a vast territory: 18 villages and over 75 Churches were part of his parish.
The passing of his mom, Teresa Suhy, on December 23rd 2010, opened up the door for Fr. Michael to return to Detroit and begin a new chapter in his life.
In April of 2011, he began work in the archdiocese of Detroit at Immaculate Conception in Lapeer, and in April of 2012 he began the process of incardination for the archdiocese of Detroit.
On July 1, 2013, he received an assignment as an associate pastor of our Lady of Good Counsel in Plymouth.
Fr. Michael is currently the father and guide of our Lord's family as pastor of St. Louise de Marillac in Warren. He is also excited to be serving as part-time school chaplain at De La Salle Collegiate High School.
