How can I join the Spring 2025 STT Remind group?
Students and parents can join the SPRING 2025 STT Remind group by clicking the link below. This is a great way to get instant STT news and updates.
The first day of STT for the spring 2025 semester is Tuesday, January 7th. All STT students are to report to Fernbank Science Center by 7:45 AM.
How will transportation work?
DCSD provides transportation to and from STT for most schools - DCSD charter school families should check with their school administration regarding transportation.
Morning transportation - Students are picked up at a bus top in their neighborhood. The bus will either bring students directly to FSC, or students will be taken to a shuttle and transported to STT by the shuttle bus. Parents are permitted to drop students off at FSC in the morning from 7:30 a.m. - 7:45 a.m. We will send bus routes (via email) for fall semester in July.
Afternoon transportation - At 11:00 a.m., all students will be transported back to their home schools via DCSD school bus.
NOTE: bus transportation is not provided for Tapestry students.
What is the daily STT schedule?
STT instruction begins at 8:00 a.m. Each day, students have a ten-minute, mid-morning break. Students are encouraged to bring a snack to eat/drink. There is no cafeteria at FSC and students are not permitted to use vending machines. Students will then be bused back to their home schools, at 11:00 a.m., for the remainder of the school day; they will eat lunch at their home school.
What will students need to bring with them?
Students should bring . . .
Charged Chromebook
Chromebook charger
water bottle (water fountains are closed but bottle refill stations are open)
snack
STT composition book (given on the 1st day of STT)
How large are the classrooms at FSC?
Most classroom/lab spaces at FSC are small and accommodate approximately 15-16 students. Wherever possible, students are seated at least 3 feet apart and in the same direction. Each learning space has a HEPA air purifier and sanitization station.
What are the current STT modules?
On paper, STT students are taking 2 courses: Biology and Environmental Science. However, we break each course into eight modules - each is taught by a field specialist. See the list of current STT modules below.
Biology Modules: Anatomy, Biochemistry, Botany, Genetics (I & II), Microbiology, and Vertebrate Biology
STT students are typically placed in groups of 15-16 students and rotate through eight Biology and eight Environmental Science modules with their group. Modules last from 4 to 7 days. Students are given a calendar at the beginning of the semester, and they are responsible for keeping up with their course schedule (location, instructor, etc.).
Will STT students be going on field trips?
Students will take field trips to local parks; they will be transported by DCSD school buses or FSC vehicles. STT students may also visit the Fernbank Forest and Deepdene Park which are both walking distance.
