Mission Statement

The Deer Park School District is a diverse and welcoming learning community that is committed to equity and excellence. The World Languages department pledges:

  1. To offer its students high-quality, rigorous instruction, differentiated to meet the culturally and linguistically diverse needs of each individual child. Instruction is focused on speaking, listening, reading, and writing in the target language. Bilingualism and cultural identities are woven into all curricula, as Deer Park Schools recognizes that bilingualism and biliteracy are assets and provide opportunities for all students to learn from one another.

  2. To value the social and emotional well-being of each student. Students are encouraged to apply knowledge, skills, and attitudes to further develop "healthy identities, manage emotions, achieve goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain supportive relationships, and make responsible and caring decisions."

  3. To welcome and respect students from all cultures and backgrounds, utilizing a cultural responsive approach in each lesson. WL staff is committed to: creating student-centered learning environments that affirm racial, linguistic, and cultural identities; develop students' abilities to connect across lines of difference; elevate historically marginalized voices; and empower students as agents of social change, discovering an authentic global awareness and dignified tolerance for all.
