I ran through the dense woods, running from it. It was loud and catching up to me fast. I jumped over a log, splashing mud all over my clothes. The rain made the woods harder to navigate. Whatever it was, was not bothered by this. Whatever it was, didn’t act like any animal I had seen before.
As I ran, I tripped over some roots, tossing myself over a small drop-off and into a puddle of water. Great, I thought, this is going to slow me down. That thing is going to catch me!
Suddenly, the sound of an unearthly scream echoed through the woods, bouncing off the hills. A scream I had never heard before. My adrenaline kicked in. I ran through the trees, pushing through the wave of drowsiness. I wanted to get away from it. I decided to continue alongside the hill, moving quickly, quietly, and cautiously through the bushes, to put as much distance between it and me.
Soon, I grew exhausted. Deciding to stop, I took a break. It seemed like the monster was nowhere to be found, so I made up my mind to sit down under a tree to catch my breath. Surely it wouldn’t find me. Right?
After a while, there was silence— a silence that seemed off.
Something was not right.
I slowly got up from where I was resting, looking to see if there was anyone around.
Nothing...
Odd...
I continued to stumble through the forest, hoping for some way out. Everything was silent. No birds chirping or bushes rustling. Just quiet.
Abruptly, there was a loud growl that made me shiver. I turned around and there it was. That thing! That monster that chased me into the woods!
It was tall, and skinny and it was furry, but it wasn't that hairy. It had long claws and sharp teeth. Its breath tickled my face and I could feel how hot it was. Saliva dripped from its mouth onto my face, burning to the touch.
I gulped, looking into its red eyes. I shut my eyes and waited for what might happen.
