January 2020

From the Librarian

Happy New Year! In this month’s newsletter you can find out about many of the new books we're currently adding to our collection. Hopefully there is something of interest to everyone!

You can also check out our displays, created by Ms. DelloIacono, on winter sports and seasons, which is accompanied by our own Olaf.

We also had some 6th grade students offer their suggestions and guidance to the DMS class of 2023, creating Public Service Announcements

This month, our Musical Theater club had three meetings, two of which were student-run. We also watched and listened to some music from Pasek and Paul- who wrote the soundtrack to the DMS musical, James and the Giant Peach. Check it out below!

Ms. DelloIacono worked with Ms. Watson's class on winter-themed baking treats, after the students checked out books on winter animals. See their delicious results below.

Finally, we offered a sneak peek of the books for our Blind Date with a Book program. Take a look at some of the Romance themed books you can borrow in February!

As always, I welcome any suggestions and feedback on how we can make the library better for our school community. I encourage you to email me or stop in!

Warm Up with a Good Book!

Stop by to check out our cozy fireplace and find something good to read!

We have a number of winter-themed books currently on display. This collection includes a bit of everything: holiday and winter-themed fiction, true survival stories set in cold climates, books about snowy and icy places, and winter sports books. Ms. DelloIacono did an amazing job turning our front table into a "fireplace" to make the library look cozy and made a chilly corner for our Olaf.

Clubs

In addition to some great work done by our club members, we focused on the songwriters for DMS' Musical, James and the Giant Peach, Pasek and Paul. See some of their other works below!

Public Service Announcements

This January, two of Ms. McLeod's classes came in to work on Public Service Announcements. A Public Service Announcement is an advertisement or a picture that helps someone learn something, do something, or change a habit. The 6th grade classes came together to create PSAs for the future DMS class of 2023, on topics like locker stress, making friends, and getting lost. Great job, students!

Winter Baking with Ms. D!

It smelled DELICIOUS on the second floor this month! Ms. DelloIacono, who is a fantastic baker, worked with Ms. Watson's class to create winter-themed baked goods. The students made Paw Print cookies and Polar Bear cupcakes, which went along with their reading choices for the month- arctic animals! Frosting, fun, and some fantastic reads were a great ending to January for this group.
